Renowned Nigerian musician, Joseph Akinwale popularly known as Joeboy has highlighted some benefits that new media (social media) has brought to the music industry.

Joeboy in an interview on 3FM Drive recalled how he was discovered by Mr. Eazi through social media stressing that the platform has broken some barriers in the music industry.

The ‘Alcohol’ crooner said the platform has eradicated the era where a few top people in the industry select and choose the prominence and breakthrough of musicians they prefer.

“I feel like social media has broken the dodge, you know like at first there used to be gatekeepers in the industry that if this person does not accept or acknowledge you, you are not going to make it.

“Now all of a sudden you can just get into the industry by just posting a cover or a song of yourself singing randomly on your bed and next thing is it is getting millions of views and everybody wants to work with you and connect with you,” he explained.

Joeboy was quick to also acknowledge the disadvantage that the platform comes along with. He noted that social media is a platform to create a “façade” stressing “it is easy for people to be misled.”

“I can take a picture in front of a jet right now, I won’t say a word and the next thing bloggers will say Joeboy has bought a jet and people who do not know me privately will believe it and if do not see anything they will take it as fact,” the afrobeats star told Chrystal Kwame-Aryee on Thursday, April 4.

Joeboy is currently in Ghana for his party ‘Lavida Night’ at Alora Beach Resort on Friday, April 5.

The musician said the event which was started last year is to provide a one-on-one space to connect with his fans in Ghana.
